I have a 2TB shared USB hardrive on my home network with a second 500GB backup. I was up to about 450GB so I knew my 500GB backup wasn't going to last much longer so needed an upgrade. I was also tired of leaving a computer on all the time for home access and deciding to leave them on USB ports of an access point doesn't work the best. Most importantly I was tired of manual backups to the second harddrive and that process which caused the backup to soon not be a "mirror" of the primary. If I deleted or moved something the backup would not mirror automatically. Did some research and decided on this. I only bought the single drive because I did read it had a USB port and I could add an external hardrive. What I didn't know and became a bonus was the fact that I could set it up to automatically do a differential backup every night. So if I change something on the primary drive my old 2TB external harddrive is plugged in and automatically backed up and mirrored. It did take 20 hours to originally back up 450Gb but who cares, the device is sitting on its own, hung off a port on a switch out of the way and working on its own not slowing up any computer. The upload rates are not that fast and the web interface is clunky but I can live with all that for all the benefits this has given me. Again, my recommendation is if you have an extra USB hardrive you don't need to spend the money on one of these with a second drive for backup.
